Most of the vacuum lines on the Saab are black rubber and these to age, get brittle and crack. I have never figured out why these were not installed from the factory. Any Saab more than 5 years old should have the rubber hoses replaced with new silicone tubing.
My experience with newer Porsches is the same. On my Boxster there are hard plastic lines that are quite durable, BUT they are then connected to rubber hoses to finish the connection to solenoids and other hardware. Of course the rubber ages, hardens and then cracks. Porsche too should have used better hose. I had severe vacuum leaks on the Boxster and silicon hoses solved the problem.
These hoses are also great preventive maintenance if you don't have vacuum leaks YET!!
